On May 7th, Gib’s RV Superstore proudly presented a $2,000 donation to the Coos Bay Police Department to support the acquisition and training of a second apprehension K9. The funds will help the department enhance its K9 capabilities amid a rise in criminal apprehensions across the area.
The Coos Bay Police Department currently utilizes two dogs: K9 Mika, an apprehension dog, and K9 Ben, who is trained in narcotics detection. With the increasing need for apprehension support and the limitations of relying solely on one dog, the department has identified the critical need for a second apprehension K9. While the department often works in partnership with the Coos County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit, having an additional in-house resource ensures better coverage and more rapid response in high-risk situations.
The donation from Gib’s RV brings the department significantly closer to its fundraising goal and has allowed Police Chief Chris Chapanar to green-light the purchase and initiate training for both the new K9 and its future handler, Officer Ryan Scoville. Officer Jake Hamblet, who helped coordinate the fundraising efforts, joined Scoville in accepting the check from Gib’s RV Owner, Lisa Larkin.
“Our community relies on our law enforcement agencies to keep us safe, and we’re honored to support the dedicated officers who protect Coos Bay every day,” said Lisa Larkin, Owner of Gib’s RV Superstore. “Investing in a second K9 is an important step forward for public safety, and we’re proud to play a small part in helping the department reach this milestone.”
This contribution reflects Gib’s RV Superstore’s ongoing commitment to supporting local law enforcement. The dealership regularly partners with both the Coos Bay Police Department and the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, standing behind the work these agencies do to keep the South Coast safe.
